Advance notification of work to carry out carriageway improvements as part of the programme of works being undertaken by Operation Resilience. North Walls, Winchester, from the junction with Jewry Street to the junction with Durngate will receive carriageway improvements in August 2015.

Due to the nature of the work and for safety reasons, it is necessary to close North Walls to traffic. In order to minimise the disruption to traffic, it is necessary to carry out this work at night between 21:00 to 06:00hrs.

Due to busy pedestrian and traffic movements during the day, we have opted for a night closure for the carriageway resurfacing. Our contractor is aware of the issues concerning night working and will endeavour to keep noise to a minimum, however, it is inevitable that some disturbance will be caused. A fully signed diversion will be in operation during the closure where traffic will be directed as follows:

Left onto City Road (at top of the North Walls), Andover Road, Worthy Lane, B3047 Worthy Road, B3047 London Road, A33 Basingstoke Road, A34 (southbound), Easton Lane, Wales Street and Durngate (at the bottom of the North Walls)

Information signs advising road users of the works will be erected before the start of works. A letter will be sent to local residents and an email will be sent to Winchester City Council to advise them accordingly.
