Dementia Friendly Winchester (DFW) has joined forces with Winchester Business Improvement District (BID) to revitalise its Dementia Friendly Communities initiative.
The aim in 2018 is to re-engage with those businesses and organisations who have previously committed to being Dementia Friendly and to recruit new businesses and organisations to sign up to this exciting enterprise.
DFW was formed in 2014 to make Winchester the first city in the country to have a Dementia Friendly High Street. DFW is a voluntary group which meets regularly and supports and promotes Dementia Friendly events in the local area.
Since its formation, the group have worked with businesses to promote Dementia Awareness Week and to encourage more businesses to become Dementia Friendly.
DFW currently works with Winchester Everyman Cinema to provide free film screenings tailored to the needs of people living with dementia and monthly Dementia Friends awareness sessions are held at Winchester Discovery Centre.
The process to become Dementia Friendly is simple; each organisation is asked to commit to three manageable actions and once completed, will be included in Dementia Friendly Winchester materials and listed as a DFW business.
This is a very exciting and important initiative and we hope to eventually achieve our vision of a Dementia Friendly Winchester High Street where people with Dementia can continue to use their favourite shops and services with confidence.
