The latest stats from Tourism South East reveal that the biggest sector to benefit directly from the tourism is retail – retailers now derive £104m from direct tourism revenue – a figure that has grown by 71% since the establishment of the DMP (Destination Management Partnership).
Tourism in the city centre is now worth £358m to the local economy.
The stats also show there is a finite appetite in the city with eateries only gaining £2m. This means that in 2017 the Visit Winchester team will be focusing on promoting independent eateries.
