The Winchester BID team are fortunate enough to snag themselves invitations to some of the region’s most exciting and exclusive business events. Whilst the glitz and glamour of the ceremony of the Winchester Business Excellence Awards, or the launch of Rick Stein’s new restaurant are all excellent, there is something particularly special about securing an invitation to see 19 brilliant local social enterprises graduate from the Hampshire division of the School of Social Entrepreneurs.
This is why I was so excited to be invited to the Awards Ceremony of this year’s Hampshire School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) as a guest of Peer-Jada Qureshi (PJ), founder of Court & Tribunal Solutions – both a Winchester Business Centre member and one of the proud recipients of the prestigious Lloyds Bank and SSE Awards.
The 19 Award Winners of this year’s Lloyds SSE programme combined an acute sense of business know-how with a desire to significantly improve the lives of people. SSE is a national network offering business support to a wide variety of fantastic initiatives, funded through partners such as Lloyds Banking Group, who also provide mentors. For examples of this scope consider my evening hearing presentations on a venue bringing a slice of Cuba to Portsmouth or an innovator inventing an alternative fuel to coal from office waste.
PJ Qureshi is a long standing user of the Winchester Business Centre and has developed Court & Tribunal Solutions (CTS) as a professional consultancy helping people resolve court and legal disputes in employment, family, immigration and business and commercial matters. CTS focuses on finding solutions quickly, cost-effectively and as stress-free as possible – and uniquely looks to collaborate within an “adversarial” legal system that pits people against each other.
PJ explains, “it’s great to have worked with world-class lawyers in the City, but taking the heat out of a legal dispute and thinking of practical solutions that impacts people’s lives positively, is good for all concerned. So I’m incredibly grateful to Catherine, and her team at BID, for their brilliant support with CTS now offering our services to clients from a highly professional, well located and modern office.”
PJ’s legal background working for Slaughter and May and the EU Commission, whilst dealing with tough cases at the Citizens Advice Bureaux in London, should reassure people that their legal issues are in safe hands, and he is joined by and Emma Boorn who has a strong professional background. The CTS team has already won the Lloyds Award 2014-15 for their initiative and secured support from Thomson Reuters 2015-16, going forwards.
The BID’s Executive Director, Catherine Turness, has taken up a place on the CTS advisory board saying, “we have been able to see first-hand how PJ has combined business skill and social conscious to create an exciting and, more importantly, credible professional service. We are proud to have supported the development of CTS, as the Winchester Business Centre exists to encourage and support entrepreneurial spirit in the city and improve quality of life.”
