Winchester Business Improvement District (BID) has successfully renewed its British BIDs Accreditation, which is the UK industry recognised standard and externally assessed by independent auditors.
British BIDs Accreditation is designed in line with the National BID Criteria and the National Guiding Principles for BIDs, it is the industry recognised standard and externally assessed by independent auditors, including members of the National BIDs Advisory Board. Accreditation provides an assessment of the BID’s governance, management and operations, financials, performance management, communication and reporting.
The process aims to increase operational effectiveness and improve standards through a comprehensive review and helps BIDs to be the best they can be through advice on how to operate successfully, and provides reassurance to levy payers that the BID has effective governance in place, and is accountable, transparent and trustworthy.
This accreditation renewal is in addition to Winchester BID being one of the first BIDs in the UK to be awarded The BID Foundation and Institute of Place Management’s new Industry Standards kitemark last year. The Winchester Business Crime Reduction Partnership, which is managed by Winchester BID, is also separately accredited by the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships.
Huw Miles of Paris Smith and Chair of the Winchester BID Board of Directors, said: “There are over 320 active BIDs in the UK and only 25 of these have received British BIDs accreditation. The feedback report glows with praise, which illuminates the enormous contribution made by member businesses and on their behalf the Winchester BID team. We should all be very proud of the work we have done and will continue to do together.”
Paul Spencer, Executive Director of Winchester BID said: “We are very pleased to share the news that we have successfully renewed our British BIDs Accreditation. Demonstrating that we meet the criteria and the positive endorsement from British BIDs should give our member businesses confidence in Winchester BID, which represents the city’s businesses community working together to position and promote Winchester, manage and enhance the cityscape, support business growth, and influence and inspire change.”
