Winchester BID is joining forces with Place Support Partnership to launch a new business cost savings and advisory service for local businesses.

We are proud to announce the launch of a new strategic partnership with Place Support Partnership (PSP), designed to help local businesses combat rising operational costs and improve their bottom line. Starting from 1 June, Winchester BID members will have access to a new fully funded, expert-led Savings and Advisory Service.

This partnership unites Winchester BID, a long-standing champion for over 700 city centre businesses and organisations, with PSP who have identified millions in savings for over 25,000 businesses. Together, they are bridging local expertise with national procurement power to drive down operational costs and bolster the economic resilience of Winchester’s business community.

In the current economic climate, the cost of doing business remains a significant challenge for high streets and city centres. This new initiative provides Winchester businesses with direct access to PSP’s team of procurement specialists, who will work one-on-one with business owners to identify efficiencies, negotiate better contracts, and uncover significant annual savings.

The programme covers a comprehensive range of business expenditure areas, including:

  • Electricity and gas: Navigating the complex energy market to secure better rates.
  • Water: Identifying billing errors and switching to more competitive providers.
  • Telecoms: Ensuring businesses have the right infrastructure at the best price.
  • Merchant services: Reducing transaction fees and streamlining payment systems.
  • Insurance: Reviewing cover to ensure value for money.
  • Pest control, cleaning and waste: Consolidating services to reduce monthly overheads.
  • Business rates: Identifying business rate savings and securing refunds.

Benefits to local businesses
The programme is designed to be simple, requiring minimal time from business owners. Key benefits include:

  • Improved cashflow: Immediate reduction in monthly outgoings.
  • Increased profitability: Lower overheads directly impact the net profit margin.
  • Expert insight: Access to procurement experts who understand the nuances of business contracts.
  • Sustainability support: Guidance on reducing energy consumption and moving toward carbon neutrality.

Rishi Sood, Founder and CEO at Place Support Partnership, commented: “We are delighted to be working with Paul and the team at Winchester BID to support such a vibrant and historic business community. Our mission is to provide tangible, practical support that goes straight to a business’s bottom line. By reviewing essential overheads, we find significant savings for SMEs, allowing them to reinvest that capital back into their growth, their staff and the local economy.”

Dr Paul Spencer, Executive Director at Winchester BID, added: “The BID is committed to helping our members thrive and stay resilient. Launching this cost savings programme with Place Support Partnership is a proactive step to help our businesses mitigate the impact of inflation and rising utility costs. This service is free for our members, and we encourage every business to take advantage of this expert advice.”
