Winchester BID has been contacted by a number of businesses about the increase in A-boards being displayed in the High Street. We have been informed by Winchester City Council that these are mostly all unauthorised as they require advertising consent. Where clusters of A-boards are appearing, there is a particular concern that they intrude into the thoroughfare to such an extent that cause an obstruction to pedestrians, and pose a risk of injury. Sadly, the number of A-boards has increased to a level where enforcement action will soon be necessary by the Council. Therefore, Winchester BID would like to suggest businesses collectively apply for advertising consent for one A-board only, which could list all businesses and promote the entire street/area.
