The outcome of the Winchester BID ballot was revealed this afternoon by Winchester City Council, the Ballot Holder. The overall result was 77% in favour by the number of votes received, and 83% in favour by the rateable value of votes received.
Over the past 15 years, Winchester businesses have invested over £7 million through the payment of an annual levy, to deliver a programme of projects, services and events to improve the city centre as a business location. Over £750,000 more has also been raised through grants, sponsorship and project generated income. The BID represents businesses working together collectively to create a successful business community for their customers, clients and staff, and residents and visitors to the city.
The BID has successfully delivered three business plans over three previous terms of five years respectively. The most recent includes the delivery of projects to position and promote Winchester, manage and enhance the cityscape, support business growth, and influence and inspire positive change.
The fourth term will begin 1 April 2023 with a new programme to help ensure that Winchester is marketed and promoted successfully, that the city centre is safe and secure, and that it is clean, attractive and more sustainable, and is a place where businesses thrive.
In the meantime, the BID team are busy preparing the city for this year’s festive season, which begins with the spectacular Winchester Christmas Lights Switch On, taking place on Thursday 17 November, 4pm to 7pm with activities in The Broadway, High Street and The Square.

In the New Year, the Board will be preparing for the start of the new term and the next Annual General Meeting will be held in the spring, where there are opportunities for new BID members to stand for election to join the Board. The team then look forward to delivering the new business plan from April.
