Kier Highways, on behalf of Highways England, will be undertaking essential maintenance work to replace the failing protective paint system under the bridge which carries the M3 southbound carriageway over the link to the M27 westbound carriageway, near Eastleigh in Hampshire.
The work will involve removing the existing paint, then reapplying a new paint system to the steel elements of the structure which will protect it from corrosion and extend its life span.
This scheme is currently scheduled to start on Monday 11th June 2018 and should take approximately 12 weeks to complete.
Traffic Management
Due to the equipment needed to undertake this work and the limited space available beneath the bridge, we will be closing the following links overnight (between 9pm and 6am) for the full duration of the scheme:
- Link from the M3 southbound carriageway to the M27 westbound carriageway
- Southbound entry slip road at junction 13 (from Leigh Road to travel south onto the M27)
Diversions
During closures of the link from the M3 southbound to the M27 westbound carriageway, traffic will be diverted by continuing on the M3 southbound carriageway, joining the M27 eastbound carriageway, exiting at junction 5, then taking the fourth exit on the roundabout to join the M27 westbound.
During closures of the southbound entry slip road at junction 13, traffic will be diverted via Leigh Road, Woodside Avenue and Allbrook Way to access the M3 southbound carriageway at junction 12.
Please be aware that these works have been carefully programmed but are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances – please check the yellow signs placed in advance at the junction for confirmation of the closures dates/timings.
