The BID has consistently called for the High Street market to be reduced in number and its current location reviewed.

Following further discussions with the BID last month, the Council is set to consider ideas to ensure maximum benefits to shoppers and retailers alike.

The Retail Group will be undertaking an independent study of the markets on the local business environment. Paul Frater of The Retail Group and Steve Bird of OCS will be visiting businesses with a hard copy survey this Thursday 4 and Friday 5 February.

Congestion, unfair competition, intrusion on the street scene, restricted access; smells and excess rubbish on the streets have all been cited over the years.  Combined with the additional challenge of restricted parking capacity at Christmas, we believe this meant that your regular customers delayed or cancelled shopping trips or even visits to the hairdresser or dentist and loyal, high value, local shoppers went elsewhere.

We’d like to encourage as many businesses to take part so we can receive an accurate picture of BID member’s thoughts. All responses will be treated confidentially. Copies will be made available from the BID Office on Thursday and the deadline for completion is midday on Wednesday 10 February.

If you have any questions on the survey, please contact Paul Frater on 0844 209 8480 or 07753 824042.
